Provision for Mom

This week is Mother’s Day.  Have you made any special plans, sent a card, or flowers?  Perhaps you made a phone call to your Mom that would lift her spirits.

As children, we have a responsibility to honor and care for our mothers.  I can never write about parents without including Exodus 20:12:

“Honor thy father and thy mother:  that thy days may be long
upon the land which the Lord thy God gives you.”

All too often, “children” get over into their own lives so much that they don’t think about the needs of their moms.  Mom is an after-thought because, “I have my own life to live.”

Even on the cross, Jesus made certain that His earthly mother, would be taken care of after He went to be with the Father.  In John 19:27 Jesus said to His disciple John, “Behold thy mother!  And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home.”  Mary was taken into the house of John as his mother.  She was taken into a place of provision and respect.

Sons and daughters, I challenge you today to do more than just send a card and flowers, make a phone call or take mom out to dinner.  While making provision for mom see to it that she is happy, well, comfortable, respected, and above all else, loved.

“Her children arise up and call her blessed.” (Proverbs 31:28)

A mother is a gift from God.  Let’s cherish that gift and be a blessing to them.
