The World Thrills with Hope
When you think of the
word “thrilling” what comes to mind? Climbing
a mountain, running a marathon, sky diving or something else dangerous is what
most think of in terms of a thrill.
Frankly, I doubt the “whole”
world really rejoices over these things.
For instance, my husband hoped to attend a bird dog field trial. When he finally went, he felt it was the thrill
of his life (other than marrying me of course!).
The concept of hope is
looking for a reason to keep believing and helps us get to the other side of something. Actually, for a Christian, it’s a place
holder for faith as we patiently wait on the Lord for guidance.
“Guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are
God my Savior,
and my hope is in You all day long.” (Psalm 25:5
NIV)
Rarely, if at all, do we
think of “spirituality” as thrilling. However,
French poet Placide Cappeau felt differently when he penned the poem O Holy
Night. John Sullivan Dwight’s version is
most commonly sung, but the original translation literally depicts and shares
the message of how thrilling the hope of Christmas is for all who believe in
the Christ child as the saving Redeemer.
“Midnight, Christians,
is the solemn hour,
When God as man
descended unto us
To ease the stain of
original sin
And to end the wrath of
His Father.
The entire world
thrills with hope
On this night that
gives it a Savior.
People, kneel down,
await your deliverance,
Christmas, Christmas,
here is the Redeemer.
… for all of us He is
born, He suffers and dies.
People, stand up! Sing
of your deliverance,
Christmas, Christmas,
sing of the Redeemer.”
The world may be weary
and struggling to find hope, but all is not lost. Hope in Jesus to fill you
with joy and peace in believing as He guides you into all truth teaching the
way to go.
This year may the world
rejoice in carols of praise at Christmas, with the thrill of hope in our Savior,
Deliverer and Redeemer. (cw)
