Exercise the Authority of Prayer

Verse of the month

“…Become complete.
Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace
will be with you.”
(2 Corinthians 13:11 NKJV)

Scripture Reading:
I Timothy 2:1-4

“The king’s heart is in the hand of the Lord,
as the rivers of water: He turns it whithersoever He will."
(Proverbs 21:1)

Exercise the Authority of Prayer

This week America will celebrate President’s Day.  We remember the bravery of George Washington fighting for the freedom to build a new nation.  We remember Abraham Lincoln who took bold steps toward ending slavery and returning America to righteousness.  Then there was Franklin Roosevelt guiding the United States through World War II and our President today, George Bush, who is pulling America together in the war against terrorism.

Each President throughout history is famous or infamous for many reasons.  God’s Word tells us, in I Timothy 2:2, that we are to pray, make intercessions and give thanks for Kings, and for all that are in authority so that we dwell in peace.  Regardless of our political affiliation we are to pray for our President and the leaders of this country.

You may not be happy with the outcome of a particular election.  You may not be happy with changes made as new leaders take office, but you are still to pray for those leaders.  If you need any more convincing think about this:  what better way is there to change things around in our government than to pray?  Remember James 5:16b “…The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”

Uphold our leaders in prayer before the Lord every day.  Let’s exercise the AUTHORITY of prayer on behalf of our leaders and those in authority!
