Not at All Strange

Verse of the Week

“Let each of you esteem and look upon and be concerned for not
(merely) his own interest, but also each for the interests of others.”
(Philippians 2:3-5 AMPC)

 June 8th – 14th

Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:1-11; Hebrews 13:1-2

Not at All Strange

There was a woman at the doctor’s office waiting for her appointment.  She asked if her husband could come inside to wait because the air conditioner in their car wasn’t working.

That day it was almost 90 degrees and too hot for anyone to sit out in a vehicle, let alone an elderly man who recently suffered a stroke.  Due to the Corona virus pandemic, the office manager denied the request … twice.

Seven other people overheard this conversation when one particular lady in the waiting room did something unusual.  She offered the keys to her pick-up truck to a total stranger, so that the gentleman could sit in the air conditioning while waiting for his wife to finish her doctor’s visit.

It may seem unusual that someone would offer such a kindness to an individual they didn’t know, but actually it shouldn’t seem strange at all.  The Bible instructs us to be kind to others, not only to fellow believers, but also to strangers looking out for their best interests.

“Let each of you esteem and look upon and be concerned for not
(merely) his own interest, but also each for the interests of others.”
(Philippians 2:3-5 AMPC)

When the opportunity arises, don’t think it strange if God puts an unusual situation before you, and humbly be obedient to act as the Holy Spirit leads.  Always demonstrate the love of Christ by being prepared to show kindness to strangers; you never know who you might actually be helping! (cw)

“Let brotherly love always continue. Do not neglect to show kindness to strangers; for in this way, some, without knowing it, have had angels as their guests.” (Hebrews 13:1-2 Weymouth New Testament)
