Practice before We Run the Race

It was a hot summer afternoon. The temperature was 97 degrees and the heat index was well over 100!  A young fellow about 12 years old was busy trying to master a futuristic looking pogo stick.  He worked and worked in spite of the heat.  Wiping sweat from his eyes after each attempt, he continued to try and beat his “personal best” from the previous attempt.

As I watched, I was reminded of the words of Hebrews 12:1.

“… and let us run with patience the race that is set before us”.

That young man had patience, perseverance, and determination.  Those are the same qualities we believers need as we keep practicing the Word of God regardless of the conditions, circumstances, or situations that surround us.

Just as that young man set his sights on his personal best, we need to set our sights on God’s best for our lives as we practice His Word each and every day.

As we practice, we will be able to run the race without running out of Spiritual steam!
