A New Discovery

Most people today think of Columbus Day as just another reason for a three-day weekend.  Unfortunately they also consider Columbus just “another explorer” searching for new trade routes for his own personal gain.  They don’t understand the gateway that God has opened, through the discovery of America, that has poured the Word into all the world. 

Christopher Columbus (his name means “The Christ-bearer”) had a divine calling on his life.  He said that it was the Lord Who had inspired him to sail westward into the unknown, to discover a new world.   

He believed that the Gospel still needed to be preached in many lands in a short time, so he set sail in the name of Jesus to bring the truth to the new world.  Christopher Columbus sought God and was shown great and mighty things that he didn’t know before (Jeremiah 33:3). 

Through the discovery of America, the Word of God has reached to the ends of the earth.  We have produced and supported more missionaries than any other nation on earth.  The Word is spread 24 hours a day 7 days a week by TV and radio.   

On this Columbus Day, let’s give thanks to God for revealing this nation to the world, and pray we become a beacon of light in the work of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.  

“Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things, which you know not.” (Jeremiah 33:3)
