The Practice of Saying Thank You

Verse of the Month

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning,
And Your faithfulness every night.” (Psalm 92:1-2 NKJV)

The Practice of Saying Thank You

It is common for people to respond with a thanks of sorts in person when someone has done something for them.  They may respond with a hi five, hugs or a hand shake.  Sometimes it may be verbal showing of gratitude by saying, “Hey, thanks” … “appreciate it” … you’re the best, thanks!”

That’s fine for when we are face-to-face with an individual, but how often do we remember to express our thanks for kindness and gifts we receive other than in person?  When we fail to show an expression of gratitude, the message of thankfulness is lost and becomes a thing of unappreciation for what was done.

As believer’s we are to be in the practice of saying and giving thanks, not only to our Savior for the good things He has given, but to others as well.  It is demonstrating righteousness (in doing what is right) as Christ did to thank those who have bestowed blessings on us.

This week ask the Holy Spirit to remind you of people you have forgotten to thank.  Call them, write a note or send a card expressing how grateful you are for their kindness, including a special scripture passage like the following for encouragement.

“May the Lord reward you for your kindness.” (Ruth1:8 NLT)

“I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you.” (Romans 1:8 NLT)

“For what thanksgiving can we return to God for you, for all the joy that we feel for your sake before our God.” (1 Thessalonians 3:9 NLT)

Practicing saying thank you reaps its own benefits from the Lord. (cw)
