Scripture Reading:  Proverb 16:3,9; Psalm 37:5

Commit to Submit Your Plans

In the beginning of January people start planning out the way they want the year to go.  They even go as far as spending time in prayer seeking God’s counsel, on whether or not the steps they want to take are indeed right.

Scripture tells us in Proverbs 16:3 that in order for our work to be established it has to be committed to the Lord.  Some translations use the word share, lay or ask Him to bless our plans.

“Commit your works to the LORD, and your thoughts will be established.”

All that’s well and good except for one thing.  When we only read this verse, it sounds like no matter what we want as long as we keep God abreast to our plans, He’ll give it a big thumbs up.  Sadly, that’s a misinterpretation of the Word.

God knows our secret desires and the motivation behind our plans.  We may lay out our plans, but only the Lord knows if our steps are headed in the right direction.

“A man’s heart plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps.”
(Proverbs 16:9)

God wants to be a part of all we do.  He desires that our plans are established, but first we must trust Him before He will help them become a reality.  If we fully commit to submit our plans (trust God by completely turning them over to Him), He will fully commit to helping them come to pass.
