What Are You Thinking?

Verse of the Week

“Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself
against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity
to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJV)

July 8th – 14th

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 10:1-6; John 10

What Are You Thinking?

What was the first thing you thought about when you got up today?  Before we ever get out of bed our mind is already making choices – what will I wear, what’s for breakfast, lunch or dinner.  You get the point, and those things aren’t even the big decisions we’ll have to make at some point in the day that could possibly change our lives forever.

When thoughts enter our head, how to we respond to them? Do we entertain worry, get anxious, allow fear or unforgiveness to imprison our mind?

The Bible implores us not to entertain thoughts that steal our joy and go against the Word of God.  Instead we are to capture them and get them out of our thinking each time the come into our head.

“Casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself
against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity
to the obedience of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 10:5 NKJV)

Taking something captive is to seize and stop it from going anywhere. Anything that goes against God’s Word needs to be prevented from having any place in our lives.  If it is able to get hold of our thinking it won’t be long before we act on those thoughts.

Read how the New Living Translation says it:

“We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down
the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments.

We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God.  We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.”
(2 Corinthians 10:4-5 NLT)

The next time doubt, fear, anxiety, unforgiveness or worry tries to take over your thoughts, choose to line up your thinking with what God says on the subject and take back your joy!  Begin living the abundant life Jesus came to give you, and shut down those negative thoughts right from the start. “The thief’s (satan) purpose is to steal, kill and destroy. My purpose (Jesus said) is to give life in all its fullness (abundance).” (John 10:10 TLB)
