Finish the Job

Verse of the month

I will lift up my eyes to the hills.  From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1-2

Finish the Job

At the height of WWII on February 9th 1941, Winston Churchill made a speech designed to encourage the population of Great Britain.  His closing words "Give us the tools and we will finish the job" rang clearly then to his fellow countrymen.

In order for any battle to be won you have to have the right tools to achieve victory.  Physical tools were what Churchill was referring to in his address to the nation. I want to present weapons that are not aircraft, ships or other items used in war, but tools of a spiritual nature.

It takes the tools of prayer added to willingness and obedience to Jesus Christ if we are to get the job done in fulfilling the Great Commission given to every believer.

Two occasions in the Bible bear witness to this statement.  The first is:

"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves,
and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land"
(2 Chronicles 7:14 NKJV).

Humility and prayer shows willingness. Seeking God's face and turning from wicked ways shows obedience.

Then in Isaiah 1:19 NKJV we read:

"If we are willing and obedient we shall eat the good of the land."

As these scriptures are revealed let us put the "tools" of willingness and obedience in our Savior's hands so God can move on a situation.  If any nation is to win the battle over its enemies, the citizens must seek God in prayer and ask forgiveness of their sins.  God has given us the tools we need to succeed as a nation and finish the job Christ commissioned us to do, all we have to do is use them.

This week pray for your nation and its leaders that they would repent in prayer and seek God’s face.  Then God will hear their prayer in meeting the needs of the people. (jw/cw)
