Firsts

Any time we do something for the first time it can be a little scary, especially for a child.  Starting school or transitioning into a new one can be quite overwhelming in the beginning.

I remember my first day of kindergarten.  A few kids were crying, but the teacher soon comforted them and all was quiet. However, I made it a point to let her know that I was a “big boy” and wasn’t crying like the others. 

Do you know what happened?  Less than two hours into the day “big boy” had changed his mind about school, and through crocodile tears cried out for his mommy to come and take him home!

Gaining comfort from my teacher like the others, we all survived and were excited about returning the next day with no more tears!  Kindergarten didn't seem scary when my parents and teacher explained what they had planned for me that year.

The first day of school will soon be here.  It is usually a time of excitement as parents and kids shop for clothes or supplies.  As you help others (or yourself) prepare for “first” things, remember that God has already set in motion good plans for success.

God has a future and a hope planned for your children (and you for that matter).  Get involved by teaching about hope and faith in the promises of God before the world can teach them fear.  Then as a family, watch His good plans come together. (jw/cw)
