Remain in My Love
Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day is the busiest day of the year when it comes to phone companies, with people calling their “moms”.  Over 122 million calls will be made in America as families try to connect with their parent or guardian wishing them a happy holiday.  It’s a special time when keeping communication lines open allows us to tell the other party how much we appreciate, love and care for them.

One of the greatest lessons Jesus demonstrated while on earth, is that He spent a lot of time talking with the Heavenly Father.  Prayer and listening to the prompting of the Holy Spirit was how He stayed connected to what God wanted Him to do with His life.

Jesus’ love for the Father was witnessed by His obedience to what God commanded in His Word.  When we spend time with someone, love between the parties has an opportunity to grow, and that is something our Lord wanted for all His followers.

“I have loved you even as the Father has loved me. Remain in my love. When you obey my commandments, you remain in my love, just as I obey my Father’s commandments and remain in his love.”
 (John 15:9-10 NLT)

Jesus knew that after His resurrection He would be reunited with God the Father in Heaven.  He prayed that His relationship with those who followed Him would remain in love (intact), just as His did with the Heavenly Father.  The only way that could happen is if they obeyed His instruction and stayed in fellowship with Him.

As guardians over our children, it is our responsibility to teach and show how they are to remain in fellowship with God through prayer and the written Word.  If you are blessed to receive or make that precious call this week, be sure to include in your conversation how you are remaining in love through daily fellowship with Jesus.
