A New Direction

 Verse of the Week

“From the ends of the earth, I cry to You for help when my heart is overwhelmed.  Lead me to the towering Rock of safety.” (Psalm 61:2 NLT)

August 22nd – 31st

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 61:2; Psalm 121

A New Direction

Have you ever felt overwhelmed by a course of events that went drastically wrong? There was a young man in early America who experienced such life altering events, but the way he responded told the depth of his faith.

Newly converted David Brainerd was attending Yale University when certain authorities learned of him sharing his “new found” religion on campus. It stirred such a conflict that David was expelled from college, leaving him feeling devastated.

Not willing to deny Christ, David began preaching to the Native American tribes in Delaware and New Jersey. His impact on the people became so powerful that after he died his diary was published sharing the message of God's grace through the gift of salvation.

David didn't let people or things dissuade his faith and passion for sharing the message of Christ.  He cried out to the Lord for help, direction and safety in the different path he would take.

“From the ends of the earth, I cry to You for help when my heart is overwhelmed.  Lead me to the towering Rock of safety.” (Psalm 61:2 NLT)

Like the biblical King David, the former young Yale student David looked to the Rock of his salvation for help.   Maybe you are in that hard place of decision, don’t hesitate to ask God for help.  Trust Him to point you in a new direction that will lead to victory. (cw)

“My help comes from the LORD, who made Heaven and Earth.  He will not let you stumble; the One who watches over you will not slumber.”  (Psalm 121:2-3 NLT)
