Perpetual Thanksgiving & Gratitude

Verse of the Month

“It is good to give thanks to the Lord,
And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;
To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning,
And Your faithfulness every night.” (Psalm 92:1-2 NKJV)

Scripture Reading Colossians 3:15-16

Perpetual Thanksgiving & Gratitude

It is a practice of many countries to set aside one day a year for Thanksgiving or a time of thanks.  The concept is readily grasped and carried out happily. However, for those who believe in Jesus, we are to maintain a heart of gratitude all year long.

The Bible tells us that we are to be compassionate, forgiving others as Christ has forgiven us.  The peace of God is to be the guide of all that we think, say or do and enables us to walk in His Spirit even during difficult times.

When we let God’s Word be the pattern for our lives it makes it easier to get along with others.  Being able to live at peace among men and with our Heavenly Father is a reason to continually give thanks each and every day.

“And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts.
 For as members of one body you are called to live in peace.
And always be thankful.

“Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives.
Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives.
Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts.” (Colossians 3:15-16 NLT)

No matter what is happening in our lives it is good to give thanks, knowing we can count on Jesus to see us through each circumstance.  That should keep a perpetual song of praise flowing out of our mouths. (cw)
