Standing on the Promises

Verse of the Month

“God is not a man; He will not lie.

God is not a human being; 

His decisions will not change.

If He says He will do something, 

then He will do it.

If He makes a promise, 

then He will do what He promised.

Standing on the Promises

When I was a child people made a lot of promises to me after the passing of my parents.  However, none of them kept their word or followed through with their promise.  They lied, changed their mind or came up with a million excuses as to why they couldn’t fulfill the words they spoke to me. 

Maybe I was gullible when I was young, but why would they lie to me?  I learned an emotionally hard lesson - men and women, no matter how good and kind they are, don’t always keep their word.

Over the years I’ve learned not to judge those people, because at times I too have fallen short where promises are concerned.  Sadly, broken promises from mankind is something we all experience in life.

Praise God for His Holy Word teaching us not to rely on man, but to put our trust and faith in the Lord.  Through the scriptures we have learned to have hope in Someone who has always kept His promises from generation to generation. 

“Praise the Lord who has given His people peace,

as He promised He would. He has kept all the generous promises

He made through His servant Moses.” 1 Kings 8:56

When we stand on the promises of God, we will never be disappointed or have to worry about Him keeping His Word.  The Lord is dependable, trustworthy, truthful, faithful and loyal to His children.  

He will not go back on His promises.  You can forgive others by faith,  Put your trust in the precious promises of God and let Him restore your peace . (jw/cw)

Claiming Your Promises

One day a woman was taking lunch out to her husband in the garage when she finally understood his problem not having a work bench for his projects.  Tools where scattered everywhere and the area was in total disarray.

Not long after, the wife purchased a rather nice sized work station for her husband.  Upon receiving the gift, he took it out to the shed and left it there thinking one day soon he would assemble it.

Months and years went by and the husband never used the gift he received from his loving wife.  Eventually it got ruined and went to waste.  If he had only taken the time to see all that was inside the package, his projects could have gone much smoother and without all the frustration.

Christians are much like that gentleman when it comes to claiming the promises of God that come with the gift of salvation.  We run to the verse in Philippians claiming God will provide all our needs, but don’t realize it doesn’t mean just material things.

"And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in

glory by Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:19 NKJV)

Take time to open the Bible and learn about what promises are given to you as a believer in Christ Jesus.  God has made promises to His children for so many things, we need to find out what they are.

Claim the promises of God right now for healing, strength, peace, direction and overall needs available to you.  Don’t let these gift promises go to waste when they are already in your possession through salvation. (cw)

September 22^nd – 30^th

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:1; Ephesians 2:8-10; Philippians 1:5-6  

Acting on God’s Promises

For the past month we have been learning about the promises of God by grace, through the free gift of salvation.  It’s time to take that knowledge and put it to work for winning souls, because we were saved by grace to do good things that represent Jesus. 

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”

(Ephesians 2:8-10 NKJV)

The Bible tells us that once we receive Jesus as our Savior, we have the tools we need to walk out our calling. We are to use these gifts and not be ignorant thinking that they are for our personal gain.

The Apostle Paul was blunt when he explained this to the church concerning the promises and gifts from the Lord. (Read 1 Corinthians chapter 12)

“Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant.” 

(1 Corinthians 12:1 NKJV)

If we remain ignorant to what the Bible says, the devil will try to trick us into thinking that the promises of God aren’t true so we don’t act on our belief. 

As a believer in Christ we know that God doesn’t lie and what good things He starts will be completed.  The enemy (satan) will always tell us the exact opposite of what God says.

“This is because you have taken part with me in spreading the good news from the first day you heard about it. God is the One who began this good work in you, and I am certain that He won't stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns." (Philippians 1:5-6 CEV)

With the help of the Holy Spirit, you are equipped to share this message of hope through various forms of evangelism.  Use the gifts (and talents) God gave you to complete the task by acting on the promises of God. (cw)

September 15^th – 21^st, 2019

Train in God’s Promises

Anyone who has ever trained for anything has a purpose in mind.  When I played and later coached baseball, we started training in February for a season that didn't start until April.  At times the field was snow covered, but that didn't stop us.  We wanted to be fully trained and prepared for the upcoming games.

Comparing baseball games to life is a no-brainer.  Certainly, life is much more important, and without it you couldn't play ball in the first place.  However, as a believer in Christ Jesus, being fully trained and prepared by the Holy Spirit from the Word of God is absolutely essential in order to win over the schemes of the devil.

We need to know what to do scripturally when situations arise.  How to act and not react, and specifically know what spirit filled words to speak when things get tough. 

Knowing and being able to speak the Word of God is a key factor in victory over circumstances for all believers.  Plus being prepared by having knowledge of God's promises ahead of time sure stacks up favor for your side when it comes to the lies of satan.

We are given warning that this can happen in Ephesians 6, and that the Word of God is the weapon needed to train us in the promises of God for becoming victorious Christians.

“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. 

Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against 

the wiles (schemes) of the devil.

For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.  Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand." (Ephesians 6:10-13 NKJV)

Daily read God’s word and seek out the promises; memorize and highlight them in your bible.  Practice may not make you perfect, but it sure will train you spiritually on how to handle "what's next". (jw/cw)

Born into Royalty

Born into Royalty 

Scripture Reading: Luke 2:1-20 

Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior was born in the flesh from the royal line of King David. He was born in the region of Judea, which is the promised land through the blessings of Abraham. Jesus is the Son of God, and King of all kings. 

"These will make war with the Lamb, and the Lamb will overcome them, for He is Lord of lords and King of kings; and those who are with Him are called, chosen, and faithful.”  (Revelation 17:14 NKJV) 

Any which way you look at it, Jesus is of a royal bloodline in Spirit, soul and body. As God’s children, we are also born into a royal bloodline (when we accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior). We became part of the royal

priesthood and are to inherit the full blessings promised to Abraham. 

"But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light." 

(1 Peter 2:9 NKJV) 

If God left these promises in the flesh to only those directly born of the tribe of Judah (the line of Christ) or the Levites, only these people would be able to become kings and inherit the promises of God. I am thankful that through Jesus we are part of the royal priesthood and wait with joy to meet my royal family in Heaven. 

"The God of peace be with you." Romans 15:33

The Promise of Peace and Good Will

With Christmas and New Year celebrations running in full force it’s difficult to find moments of peace.  Yet in all the hustle and bustle, people are still expecting goodwill to happen to them just because it’s Christmas!  Does that surprise you?

The problem is that they are looking for inner peace and goodness in all the wrong places.  They do not understand that the source of good and peace comes from God, not man.

“Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth, peace, goodwill toward men!”

(Luke 2:14 NKJV)

When God gave us His Son Jesus, the promise of peace on earth and goodwill wasn’t given to everyone like some teach.  No, the promises fulfilled through the Birth of Jesus only belong to those who repent of their sin and believe in the Christ child as the Messiah, Son of God who saves them from their sin.

The gift of peace is reserved only for those in whom God is well pleased. How is He pleased?  Good tidings of great joy are promises for anyone on earth who believes and receives God’s gift of His Son. 

Are you looking for that inner peace that you can’t seem to find?  Perhaps it’s because you are not in right standing with God.  You can pray this prayer right now and start enjoying the promise that the angel of God delivered to the shepherds over 2,000 years ago. 

“For what (any) one earns from sin (sinning against God) is death; 

but eternal life is what one receives as a free gift from God, 

in union with the Messiah Yeshua, our Lord.” “(Romans 6:23 CJB)

Believe that the free gift of God is Jesus, Immanuel and receive Him as Savior. Make things right with God in your heart so that peace on earth and goodwill will be yours today. (cw)

“But the angel said to them: Do not be afraid; for behold, I bring you good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.

This will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying 

in a manger.  And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude 

of the Heavenly host praising God and saying,

Glory to God in the Highest, and on earth peace among men

with whom He is pleased.” (Luke 2:10-14 NSB)
