Acting on God’s Promises

Verse of the Month

God is not a man; He will not lie.
God is not a human being; His decisions will not change.
If He says He will do something, then He will do it.
If He makes a promise, then He will do what He promised.”
Numbers 23:19 ERV

September 22nd – 30th

Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:1; Ephesians 2:8-10; Philippians 1:5-6

Acting on God’s Promises

For the past month we have been learning about the promises of God by grace, through the free gift of salvation.  It’s time to take that knowledge and put it to work for winning souls, because we were saved by grace to do good things that represent Jesus.

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
(Ephesians 2:8-10 NKJV)

The Bible tells us that once we receive Jesus as our Savior, we have the tools we need to walk out our calling. We are to use these gifts and not be ignorant thinking that they are for our personal gain.

The Apostle Paul was blunt when he explained this to the church concerning the promises and gifts from the Lord. (Read 1 Corinthians chapter 12)

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant.”
(1 Corinthians 12:1 NKJV)

If we remain ignorant to what the Bible says, the devil will try to trick us into thinking that the promises of God aren’t true so we don’t act on our belief.

As a believer in Christ we know that God doesn’t lie and what good things He starts will be completed.  The enemy (satan) will always tell us the exact opposite of what God says.

“This is because you have taken part with me in spreading the good news from the first day you heard about it. God is the One who began this good work in you, and I am certain that He won't stop before it is complete on the day that Christ Jesus returns." (Philippians 1:5-6 CEV)

With the help of the Holy Spirit, you are equipped to share this message of hope through various forms of evangelism.  Use the gifts (and talents) God gave you to complete the task by acting on the promises of God. (cw)

When I Was A Stranger

Verse of the Month

“Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles,
the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.
Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do His work and
build up the church, the body of Christ." (Ephesians 4:11-12 NLT)

October 15th – 21st, 2018

Scripture Reading:  Matthew 15:32-34

When I Was A Stranger

It was late afternoon when the man delivered our propane.  As he rolled up the hose on the truck, my husband held out his hand offering a snack and gave him something to drink.

“I've already eaten, but I'll take the beverage. Thanks … and have a good day.” Was the response from the stranger who was filling in for the regular guy.

Being kind to a stranger is something that believers should be doing on a regular basis as part of our service to the Lord.  Jesus taught in His Word that when we serve others with the gifts He gave us, in reality we are really serving and blessing Him.

“Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are
blessed by My Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from
the creation of the world. For I was hungry, and you fed Me. I was
thirsty, and you gave Me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited Me
into your home. I was naked, and you gave Me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for Me. I was in prison, and you visited Me.’

“Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see
You hungry and feed You? Or thirsty and give You something to drink?
Or a stranger and show You hospitality? Or naked and give You clothing?  When did we ever see You sick or in prison and visit You?’

“And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of
the least of these My brothers and sisters, you were doing it to Me!"
(Matthew 25:34-40 NLT)

Giving strangers something to drink, offering food, clothing, money, visiting the sick or those in prison and volunteering your time are works of service that Jesus doesn’t take lightly.  Be encouraged beloved, He has promised that these good deeds will be rewarded from the Heavenly Father. (cw)
