Study to Show Yourself Approved

Faith Moments Daily Bible Reading and Online Devotionals

In my decades of teaching, I have never met a parent or guardian that did not want their child to become successful, kind, caring and knowledgeable in worldly things as they grow into an adult.

However, many confessed to me that they did not have the proper tools to "guarantee" this would indeed become a reality for their child.  They often asked for counsel in helping achieve such goals and that is when I refer them back to the basics - the scriptures.

If you were to ask any business person, athlete, musician or any individual we call a professional, "How did you achieve your goals in becoming successful?", they would respond, "I studied those who already achieved in the field I am pursuing and did what they did."  That is exactly what scriptures teach we should do, but to beware of those who do not follow after God in their ways.

The only way to know if the "way" your child is going is godly is to study the Word of God.  The Apostle Paul gave us instruction in 2 Timothy 2:15:

"Study to show yourself approved unto God (not man), a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."

This is where most people fail to realize the depth of this passage. If the scripture can be rightly divided, than it can also be wrongly divided.  Teaching something that is not right would certainly cause an individual to feel shame if the information, skill or direction they gave was totally wrong, especially for the child in question.  I am in continual prayer over my instruction so that it is indeed actual to the teachings of scripture.

It comes down to this.  The only way to know if you are understanding it correctly is to dig deeper in your biblical studies.  I would suggest beginning with the book of Proverbs before moving on to the New Testament teachings of Jesus, the Apostles and others.  The more you know, the more you will grow in wisdom, understanding and knowledge.

"The fear (reverence, honor, respect, stand in awe) of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding." (Proverbs 9:10 NKJV)

Why not start right now to show yourself approved before God in spending time in His word daily.  We have made that easy by following the Daily Scripture Schedule used by thousands for almost thirty years!
