A
father was assembling a tricycle for his daughter’s birthday. For hours he took
every part and fastened one to another.
When his wife came into the room, she asked how he was coming along with
the project.
Feeling
confident he got up from the floor and tried to stand the bike, but the wheels
were wobbly and backwards. It was all
wrong.
“When pride
comes, then comes shame; but with the humble is wisdom.”
(Proverbs
11:2 NKJV)
Picking
up the box his discerning wife turned it upside down and noticed a piece of paper
tucked in the bottom. Reaching in she
pulled out the sheet. Smiling she read the bold print at the top: “Read all the
instructions before assembling”.
“Whoever
gives heed to instruction prospers,
And blessed
is the one who trusts in the LORD.
The wise in
heart are called discerning,
and gracious
words promote (persuade) instruction.”
(Proverbs 16:20-21

We
go about life the same way disregarding instruction, just like this father did. Things look simple enough that we don’t think
we need any help in going about doing our daily schedule. That’s when pride gets in the way, and rarely
we notice that’s what’s happening.
“To humans
belong the plans of the heart, but from the LORD comes the proper answer of the
tongue. All a person’s ways seem pure to them,
but motives
are weighed by the LORD. (Proverbs 16:1-2 NKJV)
It’s
important that in everything we do, God is part of our plans, because He
wrote the life manual. The Lord gave us the
instructions needed to help all the parts of our life fit together in the right
place. It’s called the Bible. Read and
follow for best results. (cw)
