Verse of the month
“If you then, for all your evil,
quite naturally give good things to your children, how much more likely is it
that your Heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him?" (Matthew 7:11 Phillips)

Scripture Reading: Matthew
7:9-11
Naturally Good Things
“My dad is a good dad.” That’s a really generalized statement don’t you
think, after all, what equates being a good father anyway?
According
to the bible the “ideal” father naturally cares for, provides, defends and
loves his children. My dad did all those
things for me until one day he left this earth for heaven. Now what was a twelve-year old boy supposed
to do without a father?
The
truth is, no matter how hard our dads try for some reason or another they don’t
always come through on every aspect of fatherhood. Why is that?
Even in being the best parent one can be it doesn’t leave out the
fact that all mankind is born into this world with a sin nature, which exempts
everyone from being perfect. Our scripture
reading says it like this:
“If any of you were asked by his son for bread
would you be likely to give him a stone, or if he asks for a fish would you
give him a snake?
If you then, for all your evil, quite naturally
give good things to your children, how much more likely is it that your
Heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him?” (Matthew 7:9-11
Phillips)
As long as we are part of this world we are to give good things to
our loved ones to help them become godly men and women. However, there is more
to parenting than supplying material or emotional needs for our children.
God revealed through Matthew that He wants to give us good things
that no one else can provide. The key is
that we need to ask Him for those good gifts that are His naturally.
My earthly father provided “good” things to the best of His
abilities and I am thankful for all he did for me. I am even more grateful to my Heavenly Father
that when I asked in prayer, He gave the “good” gift of His Holy Spirit to discern
the difference between the two gifts. (jw/cw)
