What Is Your “Custom”?

Verse of the Month

“For as the earth brings forth its bud, As the garden causes the things that are sown in it to spring forth, So the Lord God will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth before all the nations.”
 (Isaiah 61:11 NKJV)

March 8th – 14th

Scripture Reading:  Luke 4:16-22

What Is Your “Custom”?

“Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children” (Ephesians 5:1).

The Word of God instructs us to be followers or imitators of God as dear children.  Children watch their parents, and because they love and admire them, they will try and do things like them.  That is how we are supposed to operate in doing the Will of God.

One way we can do this is to get into the habit of going to church.  Jesus had this habit.  Luke 4:16 says “…as His custom was, He went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.”   It was customary for Him to be in Church every Sabbath day.  He followed God’s Will in assembling together in God’s House.

There is a little one-year old boy named Aaron, who comes to church each week with his parents.  On the very first Sunday of his life, his parents brought him to church.  Why?  Because it is his parent’s “custom” to assemble in God’s House on the Sabbath and whenever the doors are open!  As Aaron grows and starts making decisions on his own, the early foundational teaching he received will carry over as he imitates his parents who have taught him to imitate Christ.  Church on Sunday will be his “custom” too!

What happens in your house on Sunday mornings?  What is your “custom” concerning the Sabbath?  Be imitators of Christ and make church attendance your custom!
