Scripture Reading: Ecclesiastes
8:16-17
We Think We’re So Smart
“When I applied my
heart to know wisdom, and to see the business done on earth… then I see God’s
work, and cannot understand it.” (Ecclesiastes 8:16-17 paraphrased)
In
the hearts and minds of men, all too often there is a feeling of being just “so
smart”. We think we know all there is to
know, but in reality, we know very little.
Our
scripture reading tells us that even though a wise man thinks he knows it all,
he shall not be able to find out all the Work of God. So much for being so smart! (see Ecclesiastes 8:16-17)
“The
wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.” (1 Corinthians 3:19)
As
believers we need to focus our energies on the wisdom of God to be gained from
reading His Word. So prove just how
smart you really are: get wisdom. You’ll
see there’s still more to be learned. (JW)
