Double Honor

Verse of the Month

“Now these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles,
the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers.
Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do His work and
build up the church, the body of Christ." (Ephesians 4:11-12 NLT)

Scripture Reading:  1 Timothy 5:17

Double Honor

When there is a problem who do we run to first?  For most believers they pray and then seek free advice from their pastors.  Some of us treat the pastor’s office like a revolving door, bringing non-stop issues to their door.

If this is true, then why aren’t pastors and clergy given more honor or respect for what they do for us?  According to scriptures, pastors (ministers and clergy) are people that are to be respected and honored.  Ephesians 4:11-12 tells us that they are a gift that Christ has given to the church, because they equip us for living a godly lifestyle

In 1 Timothy 5:17 we read that Pastors who rule well are worthy of "double honor".  That being said, how do we show respect and double honor to our Pastors fulfilling the Word of God?

Here are seven suggestions for honoring the men/women of God in your life.

1. Know their likes and dislikes. Don’t neglect they are human too.
2. Esteem them highly.  Demonstrate to them that they are valued.
3. Show them double honor financially in their salary.  Be generous!
4. Follow the vision God has given them.  Get on board by supporting it.
5. Submit to authority by not being contentious to their godly leading.
6. Bring joy to your Pastor.  Show love and compassion.
7. Know their individual needs and minister to them. Your Pastor helps to meet your spiritual needs, how about helping to meet the physical needs of he/her and his/her family.

If your pastor is seeking the Lord for a vision for your church, as long as it doesn’t go against scriptures, help that vision come to pass.  Give, pray and support what God has led them to do for the congregation and community.  By doing this you will honor the calling from God and bring joy to your minister. “Let the elders (pastors/ministers) that rule well (lead the flock)
be counted worthy of double honor, especially they who
labor in the Word and doctrine.” (1 Timothy 5:17 KJV)
