Mending Relationships

Verse of the Week

Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles,
and pray at all times. Romans 12:12 (GNTD)

May 8th – 14th

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 4; Romans 12:12; James 1:19

Mending Relationships

“Hi, this is Marsha’s mother.  Marsha is an only child. She never writes, visits or calls me.  I’d be happy to talk to you, here is my number.”  That may be a humorous phone message between parent and child, but it was real (except for the actual name).

Obviously, for some reason there was a breach in the love between the two ladies.  The fact is somewhere along the way their relationship was broken, and there could be a million things that caused it to happen.

Regardless to how people become disconnected, it is God’s desire that a parent child relationship is repaired (or any for that matter).  Through Him there is strength and help to reach that goal.

If you are experiencing brokenness in a relationship whatever it is, ask the Lord how to go about fixing the wrong by applying these simple verses to the situation.

To reopen communication, approach it humbly not trying to force an uncomfortable conversation.  Quickly be willing to listen instead of speaking, by letting the other person voice their defense or reasoning about the circumstance without judging or commenting.

“Be always humble, gentle, and patient. Show your love by being
tolerant with one another.”  (Ephesians 4:2 GNTD)

“Remember this, my dear friends! Everyone must be quick to listen,
but slow to speak and slow to become angry.” (James 1:19 GNTD)

Acknowledge when you were in the wrong and ask for forgiveness, or offering forgiveness freely without condemnation.

“… be kind and tender-hearted to one another, and forgive one another,
as God has forgiven you through Christ.” (Ephesians 4:32 GNTD)

Finally, be patient in hope and joyfully wait as God works out the details to heal the hurts from both sides of the relationship. (cw)

“Remember this, my dear friends! Everyone must be quick to listen,
but slow to speak and slow to become angry.” (James 1:19 GNTD)

“Let your hope keep you joyful, be patient in your troubles,
and pray at all times.” (Romans 12:12 GNTD)
