Trained and Skilled for Battle

Verse of the Week

“Praise the LORD, my protector!  He trains me for battle
and prepares me for war.” (Psalm 144:1 GNT)

 May 22nd – 31st

Scripture Reading: Psalm 144:1; Deuteronomy 31:6

Trained and Skilled for Battle

Regardless of whether it is during peace or war time, when a soldier is commissioned for duty they do not know when or if they will return home.  Courageously they leave behind all they know and love for the sake of basically strangers.

Those that put their faith in God will have strength and courage in the midst of fear.  He will guide, train and give them the skills needed for the task.

“Praise the LORD, my protector!  He trains me for battle
and prepares me for war.” (Psalm 144:1 GNT)

Let us remind them that He will be with them no matter where they are and will provide whatever they need for the physical, mental and spiritual battle.

“Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified
because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you;
He will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronomy 31:6 NIV)

With thanks we acknowledge the brave sacrifice of those in the military who fight for our freedom and rights. It is not unnoticed, but highly valued.

May God grant peace, safety and strength to them, as well as the families of those who gave the ultimate sacrifice of their lives.  (cw)

The Outworking of Love

“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15:12 NKJV)

May 22nd – 31st

Scripture Reading: John 15:12-13; 1 John 3:16; Psalm 103

The Outworking of Love

In times of war it is hard to fathom that military personnel are moving forward against an enemy because they are driven by love.  That truly sounds crazy, doesn't it?  However, when these actions are lined up with the scriptures it makes perfect sense.

The “outworking of love” is the driving force in defeating an evil enemy by rescuing and protecting the injured.  Their goal is to liberate the helpless and captives from the wicked.  Many who have fought for this cause have lost their lives in the process.  In scriptures, Jesus tells us the significance of such a sacrifice.

"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends." (John 15:13 NKJV)

Christ our Savior is the ultimate example of sacrificial love.  At Calvary He gave His life so that we would not only be saved (freed and liberated) from our sins, but that we might live eternally with Him as children of a Living God.

“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.
And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”
(1 John 3:16 NKJV)

As we honor those who have served our nation this Memorial Day, with thanksgiving let us also memorialize the sacrifice of our Savior.  Let us not forget all the benefits we have gained through salvation, by the outworking of Christ's love to those who believe.  (jw/cw)

“… Let us not forget all of His benefits.” (Psalm 103:2b)

Armed Forces of God

Verse of the Month

“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15:12 NKJV)

May 15th – 21st

Scripture Reading: Psalm 82:3-4 & 2 Timothy 2

Armed Forces of God

In America, the military (Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard and reserves) have been instrumental in protecting our security and freedom.  They have fought against oppression and evil around the world fulfilling the Word of God as instructed.

“Defend the defenseless, the fatherless and the forgotten, the disenfranchised and the destitute.  Your duty is to deliver the poor
and the powerless; liberate them from the grasp of the wicked.”
(Psalm 82:3-4 TPT)

The Psalmist sums up the responsibilities and the job for all branches of the U.S. Military quite clearly.  Persistence in carrying out their duties has given us reason to honor these soldiers on Armed Forces Day.  They have done well in being diligent and successful in making the world a safer place because of their dedication.

You and I may never serve in the military, but born-again believers are to be good soldiers for Christ, armed with His Word through our testimony.  The Apostle Paul describes our assignment as subjects in God’s royal army in 2 Timothy chapter 2, and the commitment we are to hold in this distinguished service.

Our mission is to share the message of hope in Christ Jesus for spiritual and eternal freedom through salvation. The command has been given by our Chief Officer to liberate souls from the grasp of satan – the wicked one, by loving others as Christ has loved us.

We are ever so grateful for the men and women of the Armed Forces, continually praying for their protection.  This week as you uphold the military in prayer before the Lord, include the soldiers in God's Army who faithfully share the Gospel of Jesus Christ around the globe, working to help build the Kingdom of God.
