Focus on the Heart of Man

Faith Moments Daily Bible Reading and Online Devotionals

Do you remember growing up trying to hide something from your parents?  Sooner or later you know in your heart they're going to find out, but for now it's a secret.

Whether or not others know of our sins, we cannot keep anything hidden from the Lord because He knows what is deep in our heart.  The Bible tells of a promise of God that if we confess our sin to Him, He will forgive.  I'd say that is amazing, wouldn't you?

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9 NKJV)

Read more on the subject as we focus on the Heart of Man this month on Faith Moments Devotional.

Be sure to read this week's feature devotional listed on the right side of this article for further spiritual enrichment.

Oh, How I Love Jesus

Oh, how I love Jesus … because He first loved me. That’s the song I was singing when I stopped to think about the words.

I love Him, because He first loved me, but that’s not the case with Jesus.  He loved me when I didn’t love or know Him.  He would continue loving me even if I didn’t return His love.  (Read 1 John 4:10-19)

It’s the same for all mankind.  He already loved every person before they were born - all through their life and will forever, even if that individual never comes to love Him.

The amazing love of God.  It's too wonderful for us to comprehend, that someone is capable of loving like that, yet He does.

For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39 NKJV

Lord Jesus, help me to understand and receive Your love. Help me to know the height, depth and width of the kind of love that nothing can separate.

Open my eyes [to spiritual truth of You word] so that I may behold (and obey) wonderful things from Your law.” Psalm 119:18 AMP

There is a Name I love to hear,
I love to sing its worth;
It sounds like music in my ear,
The sweetest Name on earth.

Oh, how I love Jesus,
Oh, how I love Jesus,
Oh, how I love Jesus,
Because He first loved me!

It tells me of a Savior’s love,
Who died to set me free;
It tells me of His precious blood,
The sinner’s perfect plea.

He’ll Keep Loving You

Verse of the Month

“Christ has set us free! This means we are really free.  Now hold on to your freedom and don’t ever become slaves of the Law again.”
(Galatians 5:1-2 CEV)

July 22nd – 31st, 2019

Scripture Reading: Romans 8:38-39 & Romans 6:18

He’ll Keep Loving You

How many times have you messed up, because the lifestyle you’re living doesn’t show you believe in God?  Along the way you repent only to do the same wrong things again and again repeating the tiresome cycle.  If you’re like the majority of people, your answer would be loads of times.

You think you’ve let God down and have to start over, so you go back to the beginning trying to make things right with Him.  Soon you realize you failed again, so the process continues back at square one never letting you get beyond that point.

If you aren’t a believer in Christ Jesus, you can resolve this quickly by saying a prayer for salvation.  However, for those of us who have already trusted in Jesus as our Lord, as you know, that road to repentance is heavily traveled.

I’ve got good news for everyone, nothing you do will ever separate you from the love of God.  You have been set free from sin and the past.

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 8:38-39 NKJV)

Once you are a child of the Living God, you don’t ever have to go back to the beginning with God.  Just start where you last fell from His grace.

“And now you celebrate your freedom from your former master
(which was) sin. You’ve left its bondage, and now God’s perfect righteousness holds power over you as His loving servants.”
(Romans 6:18 TPT/ emphasis mine)

Even though I’ve gotten some things totally wrong, the most amazing thing I’ve come to realize is that it doesn’t affect God’s love for me.  He keeps loving and forgiving, despite how often I come to the cross for forgiveness.

No matter the amount of times you travel down the wrong path of life in rebellion causing you to fall out of God’s will, there is hope.  As long as you seek His forgiveness, because of grace He’ll keep on loving you. (cw)

The Outworking of Love

“This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.” (John 15:12 NKJV)

May 22nd – 31st

Scripture Reading: John 15:12-13; 1 John 3:16; Psalm 103

The Outworking of Love

In times of war it is hard to fathom that military personnel are moving forward against an enemy because they are driven by love.  That truly sounds crazy, doesn't it?  However, when these actions are lined up with the scriptures it makes perfect sense.

The “outworking of love” is the driving force in defeating an evil enemy by rescuing and protecting the injured.  Their goal is to liberate the helpless and captives from the wicked.  Many who have fought for this cause have lost their lives in the process.  In scriptures, Jesus tells us the significance of such a sacrifice.

"Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends." (John 15:13 NKJV)

Christ our Savior is the ultimate example of sacrificial love.  At Calvary He gave His life so that we would not only be saved (freed and liberated) from our sins, but that we might live eternally with Him as children of a Living God.

“By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.
And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.”
(1 John 3:16 NKJV)

As we honor those who have served our nation this Memorial Day, with thanksgiving let us also memorialize the sacrifice of our Savior.  Let us not forget all the benefits we have gained through salvation, by the outworking of Christ's love to those who believe.  (jw/cw)

“… Let us not forget all of His benefits.” (Psalm 103:2b)

Love Is There

Verse of the Month

“May You hear in Heaven, Your dwelling place, and may You forgive, act, and repay the man, according to all his ways, since You know his heart,
for You alone know every human heart.”
(1 Kings 8:39 HCSB)

February 22nd – 28th, 2019

Scripture Reading: Psalm 139:7-10

Love Is There

It was a particularly dark and troubled time in the life of my friend Ward.  He was sitting in a cold jail cell awaiting his time before the judge the next morning.

Frightened and alone, he looked around and saw a Bible resting on the table.  He started thumbing through the pages and came to Psalm 139, verses 8 and 10 in particular.

"If I ascend into Heaven, You are there; if I make my bed in hell,
behold, You are there.  Even there Your hand shall lead me,
and Your right hand shall hold me."

The Holy Spirit ministered to his heart that night.  Ward realized that God knew what he had done, yet still loved him and was right there beside him.  He was overwhelmed by the fact that God's right hand was holding him through this whole ordeal.

Somewhere in the darkness of that night, my friend rededicated his life to the Lord.  God heard Ward’s pleas from His dwelling place and forgave him.  The love of God washed over this repentive soul allowing him to sleep peacefully.

God saw the change in this man’s heart.  The following day in court, the judge did something extremely unusual.  He released Ward with only a warning ... nothing more.

Trusting in God’s Word as truth, Ward received the grace of God, forgiveness and favor from the judge.  He also came to the realization that God's love was always there ... it's everywhere!

No matter what you are experiencing or where you may be emotionally, spiritually or physically, remember that as a child of God you are never alone.
Whether or not you feel God's loves doesn't change the fact that He does and always will.

Believe that God loves you and receive the blessings of forgiveness through His amazing grace. (jw/cw)
