Proverbs 3:27-28
Owe No Man Anything
“Withhold not good from them to whom it
is due, when it is in the power of your hand to do it. Say not to your neighbor, go, and come again, and tomorrow I will give; when you have it
now.”
Owning money to anyone is a form of bondage (Romans
13:7-8). Jesus told us that we are free
from all bondage, and that includes financial burdens. Getting out of debt is hard, unless it is
done with the help of God.
Often times
we have money for other things we want, and put off paying our debts. The Word makes a point of stating that when
we have the money to pay our debts, we aren’t to make the person wait for their
money.
We aren’t to hold back good things from those to whom it
is due. To “whom” means the owners. When you have a debt to someone work hard to
pay it back. If you have the money, go
pay the debt now. Be indebted to no man
other than to show them love. (cw)
