Memorial Circle

“… Be doers of the Word, and not hearers only…”  (James 1:22)

May 22nd – 31st

Scripture Reading:  John 15:13

Memorial Circle

When I was growing up Memorial Day was a big deal. My husband remembers one special event that became etched in his memory.

“There were events held all over the city with the largest celebration being a ceremonial parade in recognition of those who have given their lives for our country.

It started out at the major intersection in town where there were monuments to the different branches of service and finished at a place called Memorial Circle in the city park.   Today if you walked around the memorial grounds you could read the names of the individuals from the city who have died etched on the circle of crosses.”

There is another time in history that we also need to remember.  The scriptures tell us in John 15:13 the words that Jesus spoke before laying down His life for us on the cross at Calvary:

“Greater love hath no man than this,
that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

As we honor the soldiers who have died for their countrymen, let’s not forget the One who laid down His life for that soldier and all of us. (cw)
