Verse
of the Week
“For this is
how (much) God loved the world: He gave His one and only Son, so that everyone
who believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. God sent His Son into the world not to judge
the world, but to save the world through Him.” (John 3:16-17 NLT emphasis mine)

What the World Needs
There
was a song made popular in 1965 by Jackie DeShannon that people still sing today
thinking it’s the cure all for earth’s problems. The claim was, “what the world needs now is
love, sweet love” and that there is a major shortage of it when it comes to equal
distribution.
Basically,
the message is half right, that being a shortage of it among humanity. It’s true the missing equation is love, but
not as the world gives or receives it.
Feelings
measure love in human nature and change as quickly as the wind moves. The love I’m referring to is “Agape”, the God
kind of love which isn’t based on feelings or emotions.
God’s
love isn’t measured by feelings, acts of kindness, good deeds or merit on what
we’ve done for Him. The world loves
those who love them, but God loved us when we were still sinning against
Him. His love forgives, is selfless and unconditional,
recognizing all people regardless of ability, status or race.
“When we were
utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us
sinners. Now, most people would not be
willing to die for an upright person, though someone might perhaps be willing
to die for a person who is especially good.
But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us
while we were still sinners.” (Romans 5:6-8 NLT)
Let
us learn to demonstrate God’s Agape (unconditional) love toward mankind by forgiving
others, and give the world what it really needs. God’s love … is not just for
some, but truly is for everyone. (cw)
