God of the Future

When we’re in the middle of a crisis the last thing on a person’s mind is the future.  All we can think of is getting through the moment won’t you agree?

Old testament scriptures don’t tell us what was going through Joseph’s head every time a situation arose, after he was sold into slavery by his brothers.  His future certainly didn’t look promising. One thing we know is that he continually looked to the promise keeper for hope, even though it seemed like nothing good was going to come of his circumstances.

“For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope;
for why does one still hope for what he sees?" (Romans 8:24 NKJV)

As a matter of fact, Joseph didn’t focus on the current problem but was set on staying in faith that God would make a way for an escape when there seemed to be no way possible.  He walked by faith and not by sight, refusing to give in to what he faced.  (2 Corinthians 5:7)

Joseph’s faith was not in vain.  He trusted that the God of his past and present would also be the God of His destiny – future.

“Now faith is the substance (realization) of things hoped for,
the evidence (confidence) of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1 NKJV)

No matter what the situation, if our faith is in Jesus, we can be confident that He will be there to guide us through to the other side.  The Lord will always be there for us, because His promises never change.

Just as He helped you in the past and got you through today, be assured that He will do the same for all your tomorrows. Jesus will do what He always does, because He is the same yesterday, today and forever. (cw)
