God of the In-Between

Verse of the Month

Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
(Hebrews 13:8 NKJV)
August 22nd – 31st

Scripture Reading:  Psalm 139

God of the In-Between

I remember a woman anxiously coming up to Pastor Jim and I after a Sunday morning service.  Her look of bewilderment and urgency was a clue that she had something to say.  Finding a quiet place to sit she explained her situation.

“I know how to be born, and I know how to die.  Pastors, I don’t know how to live! How do I handle all the things that are coming into my life the right way?  I need answers.”

For several hours we led her through the scriptures teaching on the presence of God in the “in-between” areas we know as daily living.  She wanted direction and assurance that she was making the right decisions, but all to often felt everything she did was wrong.

King David described it well in Psalm 139 when he spoke of the Lord knowing every part of his day.  It was so wonderful that he couldn’t contain himself over how much God was a part of everything in his life.

“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high, I cannot attain it.  Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Where can I flee from Your presence?” (Psalm 139:6-7 ESV)

There is no place we can hide from the Lord. God is with us and knows when we sit down or stand. While we walk or sleep, in the morning or at night – He is there!  God knows what we’re thinking and what we’re going to say before we ever take action. This isn’t something that should cause us to fear, but rather comfort us knowing that we are never alone.

If you are having difficulty in decision making, ask God to show you why you are fretting, and what is causing you to be unsettled in your spirit.  Then pray for direction that the Lord will show you which path to take, whether large or small and how to handle the daily living occurrences.

Remind yourself that although Jesus is the same, yesterday and will be forever, He is also there for us in the in-between phases of life.  Trust the Lord to guide you in every situation, through every event, and from faith moment to faith moment. (cw)

“God, examine me and know my mind.
Test me and know all my worries.
Make sure that I am not going the wrong way.
Lead me on the path that has always been right.”
(Psalm 139:23-24 ERV)
